On a recent RFP, we were asked “What makes McDougall + Duval unique? What’s your ‘secret sauce?’
It was a great question because, honestly, most successful marketing firms are very similar in terms of their creative output. We’re all award-winners. We all have strong client relationships and pride ourselves on our service. We’re all storytellers. But what makes us unique? Here was our response:

CEO + Creative Chief
Dan is our go-to guy when we need something highly conceptual and completely on strategy. He’s been our creative chief for 21 years—lots of experience! …and believe us, nothing leaves the agency without getting his stamp of approval! His areas of expertise include TV and Radio creation, snappy headlines, outdoor media and guerrilla tactics. When brainstorming is scheduled, Dan grabs his black leather “thinking” jacket and is first at the agency’s “Madmen-Style” bar ready to get the ideas flowing.
Vice President, Client Relations
Peter’s spirit and sense of humor makes the strategic and complex concepts he manages for his clients accessible and fun. He is involved at every level of a project looking for ways to make a campaign stand out from the pack. Peter is a self-professed lifelong learner, often referred to at the agency as “Doctor”. He’s always looking for the next challenge whether it’s a traditional, digital or a hybrid, he’ll put his own spin on it to make your company stand out.
Mia is the creative guru lending an artist’s eye to every plan and campaign at the agency. She spends most of her time in a back corner surrounded by sketches, paintings, pantone chips and a lonely hermit crab she hopes will one day come out of his shell. She has over 25 years’ experience as a graphic designer as well as being an avid photographer, and on the constant hunt for sketching and drawing opportunities. Whether a campaign calls for imagery, illustration, wordart or a combination, Mia provides results that are on brand and on target.
Pat has a mind for numbers and the patience needed for things most creatives avoid… like invoices, payroll tracking, and billing. With over 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, and working for a few small businesses in the role of Controller, Pat is the perfect coordinator for the accounting side of the agency. She recently moved full time to Amesbury, and works with us part-time while looking forward to retirement.
Our CFO Susan focuses on new business and cost savings to make certain we continue to grow and expand to meet today’s business needs. She runs her own organizational business as well, which provides additional skills to make her the agile CFO everyone wants; one who is open to new ideas, but doesn’t lose sight of the immediate needs of the agency. Susan’s undergrad work in accounting, combined with personnel management assists her in keeping everyone moving in the right, profitable direction.
Deb critiques the world with a creative spin, always looking for a more attractive solution to what she sees. With over 25 years of Graphic Design experience, a fondness for clarity and an eye for balance, Deb can craft elements on a page to ensure a perfect message for every client’s needs. When she is not in front of the computer Deb can be found behind the camera, producing commercial and advertising photography and video projects. Friendly, organized and hard working, Deb is the go-to designer who pushes the envelope just far enough.
Jeff believes that a brand’s biggest challenge is cutting through the inertia, waking people up and getting them to pay attention. In his 30 years as a strategic planner he has come to believe that powerful marketing is the wedge that meets that challenge and makes a company heard above the roar. His ability to analyze a company and its market from a brand perspective is why he’s known as our branding champion and working with him is an automatic first step in the creative process needed for brandwork.
Media Planner + Buyer
Lori is our media superwoman with 30 years’ experience buying and selling media, and the active network to prove it. Lori loves getting to know her clients and what makes them unique. With that information and her connections, she coordinates the appropriate media mix and value-added to make any advertising strategy a hit. Lori also works as a mentor and adviser to small businesses, and stays creative with her own pottery business. She is always available to discuss new opportunities and ideas.
